Obituary for Harry Kryspin Gruna

Harry K. Gruna, 83, of Bevent died Sunday July 2, 2017 at home, surrounded by family and friends. He was under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Harry was born on October 25, 1933 in Galloway, the son of the late August and Marcella (Glodowski) Gruna. He moved to Milwaukee for employment in 1953, where he worked at Briggs & Stratton. Harry was drafted into the US Army and served from 1955-1957, working in the motor pool as a mechanic stationed in Germany and then in France. Harry was united in marriage to Terenia (Wanta) Gruna on September 26, 1959. They moved back to the Bevent area in 1966 where they operated Harry & Terry’s Bar for 3-1/2 years. He started his own cleaning business, “Captain Clean” in 1971, which he operated for 20 years. Harry was known as “Mr. Fix-it”, “Captain” and “Mother Goose” to his friends and acquaintances. He loved to fish & play cards, enjoyed watching Brewer, Packer and Badger games. He belonged to the Saint Ladislaus Men’s Society and was a founding charter member, for 35 years, of the Bevent Lions Club, and served as a past president.

Harry is survived by his wife Terenia, his three children Ken (Jackie) Gruna, Bevent; Renee Schaefer, Milwaukee and Lorreen Walkush, Bevent and two grandchildren, Alex & Derrick Walkush, Bevent; brothers August (Grace) Gruna, Bevent, Roman (Barb) Gruna, Ringle, sisters Evelyn Wierzba, Birnamwood, Agnes Wanta, Weston. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ambrose, Hank, Ernie, Leonard, John, Jim & Tom and sisters Lydia Brzezinski and Theresa Cherek.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, Saturday July 8, 2017 at St Ladislaus Church, Bevent, where Father Augustine Bentil will preside. Visitation will start on Saturday at 8:30am and continue until the time of Mass at the church. A rosary will be recited at 9:30am. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post #502
