Obituary for James Alex Gruna

James A. Gruna, 84, Bevent, died on Friday, May 19, 2017 at his home. He was born on July 16, 1932 in Galloway, the son of the late August and Marcella (Glodowski) Gruna.
James was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Elderon Memorial Post #8068 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
On May 4, 1957, James was united in marriage to Virginia Borowski in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2003.
Jim farmed in Bevent and also worked road construction for many years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent and its Men's Society. Jim was also a town chairman for Bevent for many years. He loved spending time and socializing with his family and friends.
Survivors include five children, Sheryl (Randy) Senn, Wausau, JoAnn (Jim) Zdroik, Rosholt, Nick Gruna, Wausau, Andy (Annette) Gruna, Shantytown and Jim (Lilly) Gruna Jr., Bevent; 11 grandchildren, Steve, Jamie, Jennifer, Michael, Jackie, Caryssa, Adam, Arik, Dylan, Alyse and Lexie; four-great-grandchildren; siblings, Harry (Terenia) Gruna, August (Grace) Gruna all of Bevent, Raymond (Barbara) Gruna, Ringle, Evelyn Wierzba, Hatley, Agnes Wanta, Schofield and many other family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, parents and siblings, Ambrose, Hank, Ernie, Leonard, John, Tom, Lydia Brzezinski and Theresa Cherek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3PM on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. Fr. Augustine Bentil will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12NOON until the time of Mass at the church.
